This simple guide will show you how to make dough, pick the best toppings, and bake a crispy, delicious pizza right at home.

Take a Start with the Ingredients

Here are the ingredients that you need to use for preparing pizza. First, I mentioned the ingredients for making the dough. I’ve mentioned the ingredients used for the sauce and topping.

For the Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (7g) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup (180 ) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 ½ cups (150g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Your favorite toppings (e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, etc.)
  • Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)

Dough Making

Making the dough is a simple yet enjoyable experience. Start the process with warm water and sugar to activate the yeast. Then add flour, salt, the yeast mixture, and olive oil to form a shaggy dough. Knead for 8 to 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. After that, proof your dough in a warm spot for 1 to 2 hours until it has doubled in bulk. Punch it down, shape it, and let it rise again if that is what your recipe demands. Bake according to the recipe. With practice, you can also master your homemade dough for pizza.

Prepare Pizza Sauce

The very first thing is to heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat, and when the oil is hot, add minced garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. After which, use a can of crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, basil, and salt and pepper to taste, and then let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Stir now and then, which will give the flavors time to come together. Next, it can be pureed in a submerging blender or made smooth in a regular blender, but it leaves it a bit chunky for a rustic, thick texture. Allow it to cool, and spread it on your pizza dough once the sauce reduces and has that rich, savory flavor.

Preheat the Oven

Preheating the oven is essential for even cooking and a perfect result.  Set your oven to 475°F to 500°F (250°C to 260°C) and let it heat for 10 to 15 minutes until it reaches the desired temperature.

Now It's Time to Assemble the Pizza

Roll out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into the desired shape of round, rectangular, or even freeform. Then transfer to a pizza baking sheet for easy handling. Even at that stage, it would be time to spread a thin and even layer of homemade pizza sauce on your dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust. Now sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the sauce, ensuring good coverage to get it melted perfectly. Now, in that enjoyable part, your favorite toppings are on your dish.

Whether you fancy a classic pepperoni pizza or something fresh, like fresh veggies spread all over the pizza. Last but not least, finish the dish off with a drizzle of olive oil on the surface or some herbs like oregano or basil. After it's been assembled, it's ready for baking to golden, cheesy perfection.

Bake the Pizza

Make sure to bake the pizza by preheating the oven to the maximum possible temperatures (475°F-500°F or 250°C-260°C). Heat a pizza stone in the oven if using one. Then place the built pizza onto the stone or the baking sheet or onto parchment paper. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until the crust is golden, the cheese is bubbling, and the toppings are cooked.

Making homemade pizza is fun. From mixing up the dough and preparing a tasty sauce to putting your toppings of choice on the pizza and baking it to a perfect golden brown, every step allows you to mark your touch on the dish. If you are cooking for yourself, for family, or friends, homemade pizza is such a winner that you are bound to impress everybody. So let your creativity take flight in the kitchen while you get your hands dirty and enjoy the mouthwatering result of your efforts.
